Holy crap, Nic Cage and Tim Burton's Superman movie would have been one demented discotheque! A new crop of concept art from Superman Lives, the failed superhero collaboration between the two, has surfaced. Showing sparkly new suits, Doomsday and more.
Back in October, costume and special effects designer Steve Johnson gave us a special insiders look at the failed Superman movie Superman Lives, starring Nic Cage. Recently, Johnson has released even more images, story boards and concept art designs for that film's villain, Doomsday (via facebook). And we have to admit, even though we're not in love with a lot of the ideas, we're completely consumed by Superman's light-up disco ball suit and the villainous art...
Speaking of Superman movies that ever got off the ground, IESB has a little run-down of Bryan Singer's Supes sequel. What would have happened between Superman, and his new son? Here's a little plot synopsis from IESB, of what could have been:
Superman: The Man of Steel
TMS started just a few years after the incidents that we saw in Superman Returns. Kal-El is doing what Superman does best, Lois Lane is raising her kid Jason, who of course is Superman's child and the world is getting use to having Superman back.
Now there are storyline threads that go back to Superman Returns, one is the on going plot of Superman's original reason of going back to Krypton. He has always wondered if he truly is the last Son of Krypton.
Remember new Krypton that Lex created with crystals he stole from the Fortress of Solitude and Kryptonite that Supes launched into to space that nearly killed him?
So new Krypton continues to grow in space and has become an almost perfect sphere. It is now the size of a small moon.
Besides giving Humans something to admire at night, Earth new satellite has also brought some unexpected attention from a galaxy far, far away.
A massive spaceship arrives Earth's orbit, Superman flys up to meet the spacecraft and we are introduced to our out of this world visitor.
Superman quickly finds out that our visitor is also a Kryptonian survivor who has been traveling the known galaxies and was able to detect Kryptonian technology thanks to our new green/black satellite that has started to orbit the Earth.

Aw man, just when I was going to do a HULK casting column, they had to go and sign up Mark Ruffalo like one day after Norton peaced out. Marvel doesn’t waste any time do they?
Well, DC does, and we haven’t heard much of anything about the SUPERMAN reboot in quite sometime, so I decided it was time to change that. Jonathan Nolan is writing a script, and has been rumored to direct (though so has Chris Columbus, which proved false, so who knows), but now we really need a new Man of Steel as presumably Routh won’t be returning (though I suppose he could be). Who would be your ideal SUPERMAN?

It’s the role that most actors would only dream of, and only a few have played the part over the years in TV and film. Past incarnations of Superman reboots have been rumored to be really random, like, Nicolas Cage random, but I don’t think the studio would want to take any such gamble this time.
But producer Chris Nolan is the man who took the change of Heath Ledger playing the Joker, as he saw something there that no one else did, so I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if we get a pretty out there pick for Superman when things finally do start coming together.
Young? Old? Who knows? I highly doubt this will be an origin story, and I bet Nolan has something out of the ordinary planned for the plot. You all know “the look,” so who do you think should be his new face in the reboot, or should Routh be given one more shot with a new team behind him?
Last Week: MORIARTY
Last week we took a look at who should play Sherlock Holmes’ nemesis Moriarty in the HOLMES sequel, now that it seemed Brad Pitt wasn’t in the running anymore. Who did you pick?
1. Daniel Day-Lewis (13%) 2. Christoph Waltz (11%) 3. Hugh Laurie (9%)

Good show lads, I think this is a fine selection. Daniel Day-Lewis is clearly an excellent choice no matter the role, but I could see him being particularly effective here.
Christoph Waltz is another good choice, as he’s more than proven his villainous chops so far in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. As for Hugh Laurie? Everyone’s been begging for him to make a major jump to the big screen, and this could be a good time to do that.
OK, who should be Supes?

The following is the official description of the series:
"There's a new reporter at the Daily Planet: Clark Kent, who shares a workspace with Lois Lane. There's a new hero in Metropolis, too. No one knows who he is. But Jimmy Olsen was on the scene of one of the do-gooder's exploits, and he snapped a blurred photo of the hero in superspeed action - a hero everyone now calls the Red-Blue Blur.
Red-jacketed, blue-shirted Clark Kent draws closer to his Superman destiny in the exciting 22-episode, 4-disc Season 8 set brimming with high-definition excitement. Another Kryptonian destiny also takes shape. Davis Bloome begins to realize he is Doomsday. His mission on Earth: kill Clark Kent. So many new events (will Jimmy and Chloe's marriage last?), so many new faces (Tess Mercer, Saturn Girl and Cosmic Boy among them!), so many state-of-the-art effects - so don't miss a single thrill-packed moment! Mini-Review:
I haven't watched "Smallville" in quite some time, so it was interesting to catch up with the series. After all, I'm a big Superman fan so I should be following this show more than I have.
First off, they should start calling this show "Metropolis" rather than "Smallville." The show is almost entirely set in the big city with Lois and Clark both working at the Daily Planet. The story also hops around the globe quite a bit and extends well beyond the tiny town's borders. The few times they do return to Smallville, it seems a bit forced into the story.
Second, each episode of the show looks more like a theatrical motion picture rather than a TV series episodes. The cinematography, sets, and effects look better than a lot more expensive shows on TV. I was definitely impressed.
I'm also amazed by how many characters from the comics have crept into the TV show. A few of them have appeared before, but they seem a lot more prominent now. We get numerous cameos by Green Arrow, Flash, Black Canary, and Aquaman. We also see Zatanna, Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Martian Manhunter, and others. Brainiac and General Zod's wife come into play, too. But if that's not enough to blow your mind, they tackle Doomsday in this season, too. They took some liberties with the character, but they seem justified. Doomsday is not simply an enormous, mindless beast that kills Superman. He's more of an anti-Superman that has a human side. By day he's an EMT, at night a creature that looks fairly close to what's in the comic books. I think it was definitely a challenge to translate, but they pulled it off.
This season also marks the departure of Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor. In his place is Cassidy Freeman as Tess Mercer, Lex's replacement. While you can't blame him for wanting to go and do other things, he's an incredibly tough act to follow.
This season also did something extremely odd in the season finale with Jimmy Olsen. I can't discuss it here without getting into spoilers, but it's probably the biggest departure from the Superman mythos they've done to date. Watch the show and you'll see what I mean.
If you're like me and you're a comic fan who hasn't watched "Smallville" in a while, this season may be where you want to jump back on board. The show is still continuing on strong and is more tied to the DC comics than ever.
The bonus features are a tad light this time around. There's a featurette on the development of Doomsday and another on Allison Mack's turn in the directing chair. You'll also find a couple of commentaries and deleted scenes.

After falling out of favor with my Tivo for a few seasons, "Smallville" made a rip snorting comeback last season with its Chloe-heavy Doomsday-plot. And now that the Superman-series will be moving to Fridays this fall, no longer going head-to-head with "Survivor," I am super excited to season nine takes us.
EW.com's Michael Ausiello is giving fans their first look today at what the Zod-centric season will look like. It's embedded below and fantastic! All I can say is, the words "Kneel before Zod" are said in the promo, so I'm a happy camper!
I'm asking a question that all "Smallville" fans might be asking forDo you think there will be a "Smallville" video game? Lately people have been asking them the questions that need to be answered, except a question about the development of a game. Now that those questions are answered, will they do all the seasons of "Smallville" in a video game or just season 8 and 9?

Playable characters like Clark, Justice League, Lana; Legion of Superheroes, Jor-El, and others. Mabye, they'll have a evil campaign and evil guys like Doomsday, Zod, Lex Luthor, Forah in Lois, Zod, Metallo, Oliver trying to kill Lex ,and others. They could have costumes like the farm red and blue clothing, the new Super Suit in season 9, and the cop suit in episode "Bulletproof."
I found these concepts for a possible fan-made game.

A couple of interesting tidbits coming from the Currently, Superman is a hot property over at Warner And as everyone knows by now, Bryan Singer is no longer involved in the Superman franchise. Hence, the billion dollar question is...who is?
Here's where things get fuzzy, because I am also hearing the Wachowski's may come in to produce with James McTeigue as the actual director. |
Here's a response from on of our readers JD MOORES giving his opinion on THE DARK KNIGHT and the future of SUPERMAN:
COULD SMALLVILLE BE THE BLUEPRINT
FOR A FUTURE SUPERMAN FILM
AS GOOD AS NOLAN’S THE DARK KNIGHT?
JD Moores
"Even as fantastical and far-fetched as Smallville can get, it has come the closest of any Superman-related film or television series yet to really presenting the Superman mythos in, at least, the most believable, present-day, real world context. As good as it is (and will remain), Donner’s original 1978 film and its first, critically praised sequel present a tongue-in-cheek, even somewhat dated translation of Superman and his world, not ours. Gradually, Hollywood seems to have come to understand that even in adapting an escapist medium such as comic books and their characters, realism and, more appropriately, believability seem crucial for the largest of audiences to embrace such an adaptation. If only for its box-office numbers, Christopher Nolan’s Batman film-revamp, especially his hit sequel The Dark Knight, is probably having future "comic book movie" filmmakers nervous as to whether or not the bar has been raised as high as it can go. Sadly, though, as Batman – created in direct response to Superman within the same company – soars to new cinematic heights, the once promising new Superman franchise seems stalled, if not completely dead, after only one entry.
Just received a FAN letter to let us know we are doing a great job keeping you guys up to date on any Smallivlle news. Here's our old pal SpanishKing23 (Joey) giving us a shout out.
" Long time no talk. And also all of the smallville fans how are u guys? With all of the excitement from comic con I felt so compelled to just reach out to everybody and say hi. I saw the videos and the pictures on smallvilletalk.com and I loved everything I saw. To finally be able to see the new actors playing the new villians for season eight, get hints on the plot line for the new season, have justin hartley as a regular, see Allison Mack and the producers, and small hint of a possible season 9 just brought a tear to my eye. This coming season season I'd like to see more justice league episodes. Episodes like JUSTICE from season 6. That was just nothing short of spectacular. I'd also like to see more special guest stars from old superman projects. Having dean Cain and Helen slater for season 7 was a great treat.
JD Moores sends us his review of Arctic. Take a read at what one fan has to say about this past season finale. (Fan Reviews are not the opinions or views of Smallvilletalk.com)
I liked Arctic, but it's still more proof that Smallville is on it's last legs, legs that, metaphorically speaking, are probably replacements for its first set.
I'm
glad Lex finally knows the truth. I even understand his motivations, a
feat for the writers and producers considering how evil they've made
the character - again, finally. The acting is still great, especially
for that show and especially on the parts of Allison Mack and Michael
Rosenbaum. Tom Welling, good as he is, you still can't say that either
Clark Kent or Superman is frequently a very nuanced or challenging
role, not even in an ongoing series, and besides the fact that Lana
never served much of a purpose beyond being a "love interest," Kreuk,
if she is as versatile as the others, wasn't able to show it until a
few parts of season 6 and 7 and even then the writers pulled back.
Mack shows range, sometimes extreme range (particularly in season 5),
all while making a character indigenous only to the show seem like she
was part of Superman and Superboy canon for the last 70 years.
Superman's rogues gallery was never as interesting as Batman's and Lex,
however familiar, is not the best nemesis lacking Superman's strength.
Still, Rosenbaum has portrayed the character in every way conceivable,
as friend and foe and everywhere in between. I can't remember when I
ever got tired of either's character and given we've got one more
season to go, I'm sad to see Rosenbaum leaving, especially the way this
season ended.
